Sox17 encodes a member of the SOX family of transcription factors that contains an HMG DNA-binding domain and functions as a key regulator of endodermal lineage development. It plays an essential role during early embryogenesis by guiding progenitor cells toward definitive endoderm and influencing the formation of downstream tissues such as liver, pancreas, and gut. In pluripotent stem cells, elevated expression of Sox17 is commonly employed to promote commitment to definitive endoderm as part of directed differentiation strategies.
